About Mediation

Mediation is a process used to resolve any civil commercial, workplace or family disputes, with the help of a third person who is impartial. The third person is called a Mediator. The Mediator can help parties reach an agreement with respect to a dispute without parties resorting to court proceedings, which can be costly and stressful. Even if you do instruct a solicitor or commence court proceedings Mediation can still take place to avoid protracted litigation.

If you are in the middle of a dispute, you may be wondering what to do next. You have tried talking to the other party, tried writing to them to try to bring an end to the disagreement– but to no avail. Reed Mediation understands the emotional and financial stresses that can be experienced when conflict and disagreements occur and can help you to resolve the dispute.

Mediation allows you stay in control. Unlike in a court, where a judge makes the decision, in Mediation you can decide how you want to resolve the dispute. You do not have to accept an outcome you are not happy with.

Mediation is usually  much quicker and much less expensive than going to court, so it can be a more efficient way of resolving disagreements, that allows everyone to move on from the problem sooner.

Mediation provides a safe and supportive environment. The Mediator will listen to all views, talking to you privately, and sometimes together with the other party, to help guide you through the process.

Mediation is confidential. Whereas disputes that are resolved through the court are potentially a very public process. However, when disputes are settled out of court through Mediation, it is private between you and the other party and any agreement is only binding when you reach and sign an agreement to settle.

Mediation can help preserve your relationships. Settling a dispute through an adversarial court battle can put added pressure on the relationship between both parties. However, Mediation helps you focus on communicating effectively with each other to find solutions that work for all.
